Robin
Benardot is
a Registered Dietitian and a Licensed Dietitian (State of Georgia), practicing since 1978 in a myriad of traditional
and non-traditional health care settings.
Her broad-based
and sometimes out of the ordinary experience as a medical nutrition therapist
began as a clinical dietitian at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in
New York City, where she specialized in nutrition support during the treatment
of gastrointestinal cancers—an experience that greatly shaped her beliefs
about the yet untapped potential of nutrition in disease prevention. In
addition to her experience as a clinical dietitian in hospitals and clinics, she
has also created and taught weight management programs for fitness clubs,
consulted to industry and counseled disordered eating in private practice.
Robin
lived for 16 years between
Paris,
France
and Geneva, Switzerland, fully experiencing and appreciating French “savior-faire” -- the very
important role of good food and well-prepared meals in the French culture.
Her years living abroad greatly influenced her philosophy that the science of
human nutrition is best applied by a “food-first” approach. Upon her
return to the US several years ago, she observed the common dilemma of knowing
exactly what, when and how to eat. This has has given Robin great
opportunities for counseling her clients towards healthy and enjoyable eating habits individualized
to their specific health and lifestyle needs.
Robin
has also served her profession as a member of the Board of Directors of the
international affiliate of the American Dietetic Association. In this
capacity she has promoted networking and continuing education amongst
international dietetic associations and has been an invited speaker on oncology
nutrition and non-traditional weight management approaches for international
dietetic conferences.
Robin
recently became certified as a Wellness Coach with the American
College
of Sports Medicine (ACSM) for whom she has authored Weight Management
Professional Continuing Education Program promoting the power of collaboration
between fitness professionals and Registered Dietitians.
In
her private practice, her areas of expertise include cancer recovery, celiac
disease and gluten intolerance, gastrointestinal disorders, sports nutrition,
non-diet approach to weight issues and disordered eating. She also serves
in a volunteer capacity as a nutrition consultant for the Chemo
Chic breast cancer support program.
